A Summer Dream in Bloom: A July Wedding at Thicket Priory
A Summer Dream in Bloom: A July Wedding at Thicket Priory
There's something truly magical about a summer wedding, and this beautiful celebration we designed in July at the majestic Thicket Priory was no exception. For this gorgeous couple, we embraced a colour palette of soft pastels—think delicate blushes, gentle peaches, creamy whites, and the most exquisite pops of light blue and lavender. The overall effect was romantic, abundant, and utterly timeless.
The Bridal Bouquet & Personal Flowers
The bridal bouquet set the tone for the entire day. We chose lush, romantic blooms like David Austin roses in shades of peach and cream, mixed with whimsical blue delphiniums (or Dwarf Larkspur), fragrant scabiosa, and soft pink lisianthus. The texture and movement gave it an organic, garden-gathered feel, finished with a beautiful trailing silk ribbon.
We continued this charming, soft aesthetic into the smaller bouquets and arrangements, perfect for the bridesmaids and as gifts.
Ceremony Splendour: The Chapel
The stunning stained-glass windows of the Thicket Priory chapel provided a breathtaking backdrop for the ceremony. Our goal was to frame this incredible feature with organic, abundant floral meadows that felt as if they had sprung up naturally.
Using a mixture of loose, airy foliage and the signature pastel blooms, which included large heads of white hydrangea, delicate delphinium spires, and trailing scabiosa seed heads, we created two large, free-standing installations that brought the garden inside. The effect was dramatic, yet deeply romantic, enhancing the historic beauty of the space without overshadowing it.
Grand Entrances & Staircase Drama
The historic architecture of Thicket Priory called for statement pieces that could carry through the venue's grand hallways and staircases. We focused on adding floral interest to the stunning window ledges and the main staircase.
The tall, leaded windows were adorned with long, sweeping arrangements featuring garden roses, trailing ivy, and spires of white and purple blooms like Verbascum and Allium, creating a continuous line of beauty.
The main staircase became a fairytale cascade of flowers and candlelight. We wrapped the balustrade in a lush runner of mixed foliage and our key blooms—white hydrangeas, blue delphiniums, and soft peach garden roses—creating an enchanting trail up the steps. The addition of pillar candles at the base and along the steps added a warm, inviting glow.
Reception Centerpieces
Moving into the reception space, we carried the aesthetic through with elegant table centerpieces. These arrangements were designed in classic white urns, lifted to provide height and drama while still allowing for conversation.
Each centerpiece was a miniature garden, filled with all the delightful summer textures from the day: peachy David Austin roses, pale blue Delphinium, delicate Scabiosa, and tall spires of white Stock or Campanula. They perfectly complemented the beautiful light and setting of the reception room.
It was an honour to be part of this unforgettable day, creating a cohesive, romantic, and truly luxurious floral scheme for this wonderful couple at Thicket Priory. We wish them a lifetime of happiness!

Our Top British Summer Blooms for Wild & Whimsical Designs
Here are some of our most cherished British-grown flowers that truly define the summer season, perfect for crafting Blossom Wild Florals’ signature romantically wild and whimsical arrangements:
1. English Garden Roses: Classic Romance with a Wild Heart
Nothing says "romance" quite like an English Garden Rose. Grown for their exquisite perfume, abundant petals, and natural, often cupped forms, these roses come in an array of soft pastels, vibrant pinks, and creamy whites. They are the quintessential bloom for adding luxurious softness and a timeless garden feel.
Our Style Tip: We often use English Garden Roses as a focal point, letting their natural form dictate the flow of a bridal bouquet or spilling elegantly from a grand centrepiece. They blend seamlessly with looser, wilder elements for a truly organic look.
2. Sweet Peas: Delicate Fragrance and Whimsical Charm
Continuing their bloom from late spring into summer, British sweet peas are an absolute delight. Their paper-thin petals, delicate tendrils, and intoxicating fragrance make them indispensable for adding a touch of ephemeral beauty and subtle movement to any design.
Our Style Tip: Sweet peas are perfect for creating that airy, ethereal quality in bouquets and smaller arrangements. Their scent is enchanting, and we love to weave them through designs to add a sense of lightness and natural elegance.
3. Delphiniums & Larkspur: Majestic Height and Cottage Garden Grace
For impactful height and a glorious vertical element, British-grown delphiniums and their close relatives, larkspur, are unmatched. Available in stunning blues, purples, whites, and pinks, they bring a stately yet natural elegance, evoking classic cottage gardens.
Our Style Tip: We use these spires to create dramatic backdrops for ceremonies or as central, towering features in large floral installations. In bouquets, smaller stems add beautiful texture and an upward sweep, grounding the wilder elements.
4. Dahlias: Abundance and Bursting Colour
As summer progresses into its peak and late season, British dahlias become the stars of the show. With an incredible diversity of forms – from intricate pompons to dinner-plate-sized decorative blooms – and a kaleidoscope of colours, they offer endless possibilities for adding bold texture and vibrant personality.
Our Style Tip: Dahlias are incredibly versatile. We love them as hero flowers in bouquets, bringing a generous, abundant feel, or massed in centrepieces for a luxurious, garden-luxe look. Their variety allows us to tailor them to any summer wedding palette.

Our Favourite British Spring Blooms for Your Yorkshire Wedding
Here are some of the stars of the season, all beautifully grown in the UK, perfect for creating Blossom Wild Florals' signature romantically wild and whimsical designs:
1. Ranunculus: The Epitome of Ruffled Romance
These delicate, multi-petalled beauties are a firm favourite. British growers are increasingly perfecting ranunculus cultivation under cover, providing us with stunning varieties in an incredible spectrum of colours – from soft blush and creamy white to rich crimson and vibrant orange. Their many layers of petals create a luxurious, soft texture that is truly captivating.
Our Style Tip: Ranunculus are ideal as a focal point in bridal bouquets, their ruffled forms spilling out for that natural, undone feel. They also add incredible depth and charm to table centrepieces, nestled amongst delicate foliage.
2. Anemones: Striking Simplicity
With their distinctive dark centres and velvety petals, British-grown anemones offer a striking contrast. Available in classic whites, as well as captivating blues, purples, and vibrant reds, they bring a touch of chic elegance while remaining wonderfully organic.
Our Style Tip: Anemones are perfect for creating a bold statement. Their unique appearance draws the eye and adds an artistic edge to arrangements. We often pair them with lighter, more airy blooms to create dynamic visual interest in bouquets and ceremony backdrops.
3. Hellebores: Woodland Whimsy
Often among the earliest flowers to emerge, hellebores are a staple of the British garden in early spring. Their subtle, nodding heads and often speckled petals bring an intriguing, woodland-inspired charm. They add a sophisticated touch of wildness and understated elegance.
Our Style Tip: Hellebores are excellent for arrangements that feel genuinely gathered from a magical garden. Their delicate structure adds beautiful movement and depth, making them ideal for adding detail in bouquets, boutonnieres, and smaller, intimate table arrangements.
4. Tulips: Elegant & Dynamic
Forget the rigid perception of tulips; British growers cultivate exquisite varieties with long, elegant stems and beautifully formed petals. French and Parrot tulips, for instance, naturally bend and sway, adding incredible movement and character to any design.
Our Style Tip: These more unusual tulip varieties are fantastic for introducing height and flowing lines. We embrace their natural inclinations, allowing them to lean and cascade, creating that beautiful, artistic shape in hand-tied bouquets and larger floral installations.
5. Sweet Peas: Fragrant & Delicate
A quintessential British garden flower, sweet peas are adored for their intoxicating fragrance and delicate, fluttering petals. They embody the charming and ephemeral beauty of spring.
Our Style Tip: Sweet peas are brilliant for adding softness, fine texture, and that unforgettable scent to arrangements. We use them generously in bridal bouquets and smaller, personal designs where their fragrance can truly be appreciated, intertwining them with other blooms for an ethereal and heartfelt feel.
