A Colourful Summer Wedding at Birdsall House
Birdsall House is one of those venues I always love returning to. Set in the beautiful North Yorkshire countryside, it has such a sense of history and elegance, but still manages to feel wonderfully relaxed and welcoming — which makes it such a lovely place to flower.
For this summer wedding, we worked with a soft but joyful palette of buttery yellows, blush and peach, touches of blue and fresh green. The bridal bouquet was full of beautiful seasonal texture, with garden roses, peonies and delicate blue flowers creating that loose, natural feel I love.
One of my favourite parts of this wedding was creating flowers outside in the grounds. I love designing larger installations that feel as though they belong in their surroundings — abundant, garden-inspired and full of movement rather than overly structured.

Inside Birdsall House, we carried the colour through into the wedding breakfast. The height of the room gave us the opportunity to create a real statement with tall floral arrangements, bringing the eye upwards while still allowing guests to see and talk comfortably across the tables.

Colour is always one of my favourite parts of the design process. Before becoming a florist, I spent many years working as a print designer, so putting colours together comes very naturally to me. I love finding combinations that are a little unexpected — here, soft blue and green sit alongside pink, cream and little pops of yellow, bringing a modern freshness to the beautiful traditional surroundings of Birdsall House.

We mixed the taller statement pieces with lower, garden-style arrangements, keeping the tables feeling abundant without overwhelming them. I particularly love the combination of the flowers with those simple yellow candles — little touches of colour running throughout the room made everything feel connected without being too 'matched'.

Why I love flowering at Birdsall House
Birdsall House gives me so much to work with as a florist. Beautiful rooms, incredible grounds and all that history, but with a relaxed atmosphere that means the flowers can still feel fresh, playful and personal.
